Work from home jobs you can try for yourself

By: Louise Mosqueda0 comments

Working a 9 to 5 job has become the norm for a lot of people. But working with apathetic bosses and people with their agendas can make it harder than it should. Thanks to the internet, however, you can now work from home.

No more having to wake up early and dressing up in your best suits every day. Instead, you can now just put on your sweatpants, fire up your computer and get started, heck, you can even ditch the pants and go about your business in your underpants. But before you get excited, you need to figure out what job is best suited for you.

There are various platforms you can use online to find jobs online like Upwork and Fiverr to name a few. All you need for that job is a working computer, a stable internet connection, and a skill you can market to people who are looking for someone to do a job for them. Here are a few work-from-home jobs you can try for yourself:

Animator

Have the talent for creating short animated video clips? Businesses are always looking for freelancers offering this service to help with advertising. You will need the proper software for this, as well as minor video and music editing skills that can help you create excellent videos for your clients.

The better your work quality, the more clients will seek your service. If you can, create a portfolio that you can showcase to people enquiring about your work.

Graphic designer

Have an eye for design but can’t quite grasp animation? Then choose to be a graphic designer. Everyone is always in need of a good poster for their event or advertising purposes

If you are a talented artist, you can also offer commissions for drawing portraits. Just remember to say no to “exposure payments” and always ask for the right price.

Virtual Tutor

Do you know a specific skill? A virtual tutor job may be the right choice for you. You can teach them a variety of skills from teaching non-native speakers English to teaching people how to play an instrument or more.

For this job, you need to have an infinite amount of patience, as you won’t be there to physically show the person you are teaching how the job is done as well as a pleasing personality so these nervous newbies won’t be too nervous while they learn a new skill.

Blogger/writer

Ever notice how there are so many articles online? Websites need a lot of content, and writers are always in demand. You won’t go wrong with writing for clients and their website. It’s a great learning opportunity, and you get plus points if you know how to optimise content for search engines. It’s a skill worth learning, especially today, where computers and the internet reign supreme.

Virtual Assistant

A virtual assistant is essentially a secretary, but you don’t get to be with your boss because you’re working from home. Your job will be to make sure that the client’s day is organised, answering emails and or calls through Skype, and managing social media if needed.

It’s a flexible job and usually pays an hourly rate, making it a substantial way to earn an income.

Non-internet jobs

Can’t do the whole “sitting-in-your-office-on-your-computer” thing? Granted it will start to feel like a regular office job after some time. If you want to be doing an activity instead of sitting on your computer listening to the same ten songs while you finish up a write up before the deadline, there are jobs you can do. To get them, you will either need to advertise in your neighbourhood or online.

Dog/child/house sitting

Being able to be a trustworthy friend or neighbour has its perks. Offer your services to neighbours going on a vacation, wherein you can check their house from time to time, water their plants, bring in the mail, and even take care of pets while they are away.

If you’ve got family or friends, who want to go out for date night to be away from the kids for a little bit, offer to babysit for them for a few hours. If you’re good with kids, and if kids love you, this is an excellent part-time job.

Once you’ve established yourself with the people close to you, you can ask them to recommend you to their friends to expand your network and give you more job opportunities.

Cook

There’s just something fulfilling about creating a dish and watching the taster’s face light up. Consider a catering job for small events like children’s parties and baby showers. Prepare a menu for people to choose from, and always remember to prepare a taste sample to ensure that clients will love what you will serve.

Finally, don’t forget to consider the size of the party before accepting, to make sure that you can prepare enough food for everyone without slaving too long on your stove, especially if you will be doing all the cooking on your own.

Instructor

Like a virtual instructor, but you will be in the same room as the person you’re teaching. You can offer guitar lessons, teaching kids math, or even cooking. It’s a great way to share your knowledge and skills with others while earning a few dollars out of it.

Photographer

People always want moments in their lives recorded. Offer to photograph events and give clients the option to have them saved on a flash drive, or you can burn them onto a disk. If you own a video camera, you can also offer video services with editing, to allow these folks to remember the most special days of their lives forever.

Before you get started on this path, remember to put together a portfolio showcasing your other works to give them an idea on what to expect and if your style will fit their taste.

Repair person

Another way to earn a living on your own is to start charging friends and family every time they ask you to come over to repair their computer. Or if you’re into woodwork and electronics, you can help folks with shelves, and their broken toaster.

There’s always something for you to do, and let them see that once you fix an item, it won’t break for another few years or so, and you just saved them from a few hundred dollars.

Work from home jobs isn’t for everyone. And if you’re not skilled or lack the experience for some of these jobs, you have to work hard to be better, so more people will be keen to hire you.

It’s also important to note that this line of work may be enough to sustain other people’s lifestyles, but it may not work the same for you. If you want, you can try doing some of these jobs during the weekends to gain experience, and if you’re feeling confident enough, and see that you’re earning enough to make ends meet, that should be the only time you should make it a full-time job.

Whether you’re working from home or at the office, you will need a car to get to places. Alpha Finance offers car leasing services that allow you to get a decent vehicle for your everyday use at an affordable price. You can even discuss payment arrangements with the agents to ensure that your payments can fit with your current income.
